I am a huge Hal David, Burt Bacharach, Dionne Warwick fan, as a songwriter, how could I not be?
Of all the shows I’ve ever done, the 2 that shine the brightest, were brought to me by the same promoter, Bill Johnson, a founding member of the house of blues.
The other show was with none other than Ray Charles!!!!
I jumped at the chance to open for Dionne. The music started with don’t make me over in 1962, but it was Alfie that to this day almost brings me to tears when she sings after the bridge and makes the resigned statement, “I believe in love, alfie” trying to reach the superficial narcissist…..
The greatest partnership other than Lennon McCartney to ever grace the American songbook.
Dionne was happy, gregarious, breezy, funny, strong and delighted to have her son david join her, an amazing talent in his own right.
I am a big Karen carpenter fan too, and gene Pitney, all have sung David, Bacharach tunes, but Dionne was the vessel for the genius, period
The best part after opening the show was David saying he loved the lyrics to my set, and the rest of the weekend spent discussing music
